About the UKFC Project Founders

Founders Goals

This initiative was initially proposed and coordinated by Adam De La Mare and Stefan Ruiz with input, feedback and informal support from other UK-based freediving athletes, instructors and organisers.

It is important to be clear that neither Adam nor Stefan is intended to hold any privileged role, authority or permanent position within any future structure. In fact, under the model proposed here,

both would fall within the same membership category and constraints as any other school owner or professional instructor, so could not both hold a position on the council in its proposed form.

The purpose of this work is not to create a platform for individuals but to articulate a shared need within the community and propose a structure through which that need could be addressed transparently, collectively and democratically.

The proposals on this site are offered as a starting point for discussion, not as a finished design or a claim to leadership.

Like many others in the community, Adam and Stefan have been affected by the current lack of clarity, representation and public alignment around freediving. Their motivation is simply to see the sport develop in a way that is safer, more coherent and more visible both to itself and to external institutions, as freediving business owners, instructors and passionate freedivers.
